Gone Fishin'

A Spinosaurus fishing for Coelacanth

In-game Information

Spinosaurus, The biggest predator to walk the blocky world. This ferocious predator is solitary, but can occasionally be found in pairs. If a 3rd spinosaurus stumbles upon the pair, it will be swiftly killed. Spinosaurus has 80 health and has an attack damage of 20 health points or 10 hearts. "Spinos" will eat any Jurassicraft or vanilla mob and can feed from feeders. However, a Spinosaurus may have trouble hunting a Tyrannosaurus as they have equal health and damage so the Tyrannosaurus may kill the Spinosaurus or vice versa. When thirsty, Spinosaurus can drink from water blocks, flowing and source blocks. In a pair of a male or female, Spinos may breed, producing a clutch of 2-4 eggs. Spinosaurus is not imprintable (tameable) due to its aggressive lifestyle and lack of parental bonding. Currently, in 2.2.0, Spinosaurus does not swim or fish in any unique way, it swims just like any other mob would.

Real-World Information

Spinosaurus (meaning "spine lizard") is a genus of spinosaurid dinosaur that lived in what now is North Africa during the Cenomanian to upper Turonian stages of the Late Cretaceous period, about 99 to 93.5 million years ago. This genus was known first from Egyptian remains discovered in 1912 and described by German paleontologist Ernst Stromer in 1915. The original remains were destroyed in World War II, but additional material has come to light in the early 21st century. It is unclear whether one or two species are represented in the fossils reported in the scientific literature. The best known species is S. aegyptiacus from Egypt, although a potential second species, S. maroccanus, has been recovered from Morocco. The contemporary spinosaurid genus Sigilmassasaurus has also been synonymized by some authors with S. aegyptiacus, though other researchers propose it to be a distinct taxon. Another possible junior synonym is Oxalaia from the Alcântara Formation in Brazil.

Drinking Spinosaurus

"Spinosaurus aegyptiacus."

"I don't remember that on InGen's list."

Spinosaurus is a carnivore surrounde d in mystery, it's not part of InGen's list so it was not planned to be an attraction in Jurassic Park and was made after the acquisition of InGen by Masrani Global Corporation and after the passing of the Gene Guard Act so it is an illegal species. Spinosaurus was  cloned in the Embryonics Administration lab, alongside Ceratosaurus as part as the amalgam testing experiment. Said-amalgam were genetic chimaeras of several species. The only confirmed individuals live on sorna and are hyper-aggressive due to genetic alterations. It is not encouraged and illegal via the Gene Guard Act. Spinosaurs produced by InGen are larger than their extinct parent species and aren't pescivorous nor semi-aquatic.

Only veteran predator-keepers and collectors with a permit should keep spinos as InGen's phenotype is extremely dangerous. An adult Spinosaurus are fast and deadly. On Sorna, spinosaurus have been known to prey on tyrannosaurs.

Not much is known about breeding spinosaurs, as only one has been confirmed to have been made, but going off of relatives such as baryonyx and suchomimus, they should be easy to breed as long you have just a pair and house them appropriately.

Housing

Anyone willing to house a spinosaurus will need high either electric, concrete fences or both. Spinosaurs need alot of space, with some open areas and preferably a large body of water. It is advised that you use automated feeders to reduce the need to enter the paddock. Tranquiliziers are a must for when you want to clean or introduce live bait into the enclosure. Spinosaurus likes to hunt, so live bait should be provided when possible
