Real Life Information: Edit

An extinct genus of Marattialean tree fern, Psaronius grew during the Late Carboniferous and most of the Permian. This 10 metre tall plant is known from various parts, including the stem, the root mantle, fronds, fiddleheads, and mature leaves with spores. Edit

The root mantle of Psaronius appears to have also supported a wide range of other plant species, such as the epiphyte Botryopteris, and the climbing ferns Tubicaulis and Ankyropteris. The aforementioned plants have only ever been found in association with Psaronius root mantles, hinting at a kind of symbiosis with the giant tree fern. Edit

Fossils of this tree fern have been found in Scotland, Germany and Brazil. Edit
